Clayton State women set to compete in Gator Invite

MORROW, Ga. – January 21, 2012 – The Clayton State Laker women's track and field team will return to action in its indoor season this weekend as the Lakers will compete in the Gator Invite at Florida on Sunday.

Action begins at 11 a.m. at the Stephen O'Connell Center with field events, and running events begin at 1 p.m.

"We'll be using this meet to get some of our speed back," said Clayton State head coach Mike Mead. "Most of our women are limited from competing in their specialty events in this meet due to field size so we'll be running most on relay teams."

The Lakers will go with junior Paige Galvin in the 3,000-meter run and junior Jasmine Madison in the 55-meter dash. A key new addition will be the return of junior Monique Belmudes. A distance standout the last two seasons for the Lakers, Belmudes ran cross country last fall at Division II Grand Canyon in Arizona.

"It's nice having Monique back with us and she'll be a key leader, along with Paige, as this team develops this season," Mead said.
