No. 11 Clayton State women drop 9-0 decision at No. 10 Francis Marion

FLORENCE, S.C. – April 14, 2012 – In a showdown of two Division II Top 15 Peach Belt Conference women's tennis programs, the Clayton State Lakers dropped a 9-0 decision at Francis Marion on Saturday.

The defeat drops Clayton State, ranked 11th in the nation in Division II, to 7-11 overall and 6-5 in the Peach Belt. 10th-ranked Francis Marion improves to 15-2 overall and 9-2 in the Peach Belt.

The Lady Patriots won four of their singles matches in straight sets. The highlight match was at No. 1 where Francis Marion's Jitka Gavdunova out-lasted Clayton State's Marie Cercelletti in a 6-0, 3-6, 10-8 three-set thriller. The top doubles match was at No. 2, as Clayton State's Cercelletti and Charlotte Fabricius dropped a thrilling 9-8 (7-4) decision to Francis Marion's Kimberly Hurter and Julia Graf.

Clayton State wraps up Peach Belt Conference regular season play on Sunday with a 10 a.m. match at UNC Pembroke.
