Clayton State women move up to No. 4 in USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll
USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll (Feb. 7)
LILBURN, Ga. – February 8, 2012 – After slipping three slots last week to No. 5 in the nation, the Clayton State Laker women's basketball team advanced one spot to No. 4 in the new USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 poll released on Tuesday.
Clayton State (21-2, 11-1 Peach Belt Conference) received 616 points in this week's poll - 34 points behind No. 3-ranked Wayne State (21-2). The Lakers lead No. 5 Ashland (18-1) by five points. The Lakers won one game last week - an 85-50 victory over Montevallo. Clayton State also defeated Georgia College 81-56 on Tuesday, but that results counts towards next week's poll.
Clayton State is one of three Peach Belt Conference teams ranked this week. USC Aiken (17-3, 10-2 PBC) is ranked 15th, up one spot from No. 16, while Lander (17-3, 12-0 PBC) improves twp spots from No. 19 to No. 17.
Cal-San Diego (22-0) maintained its No. 1 ranking for a fifth straight week, while Edinboro (20-0) stayed No. 2 for a second straight week. Rounding out the rest of the Top 10 is Fort Lewis (18-2) at No. 6, Bentley (19-3) at No. 7, Metro State (19-2) at No. 8, Washburn (20-3) at No. 9 and Pittsburg State (20-2) at No. 10.
Clayton State is back in action again on Saturday with a key Peach Belt Conference match-up at North Georgia.
