Clayton State opens 2012 indoor track & field season this weekend at Clemson
MORROW, Ga. – December 3, 2011 – The 2012 indoor track & field season is on the horizon for the Clayton State Laker men's and women's teams that open the season today in the Orange and Purple Winter Classic at Clemson.
Events begin at 12 p.m. with the women's long jump and last through 5 p.m. with the men's and women's 4x400-meter relays. This is the first of two indoor meets at Clemson that Clayton State will compete in this season. The Lakers return on Feb. 10-11 for the Tiger Paw Invitational. This is the eighth season of indoor track & field at Clayton State.
"We're going into this meet as a chance to see where we are at in terms of fitness. We've had a solid effort with fall conditioning, but it's time to see how we compare to comparable competition," said Clayton State head coach Mike Mead.
"For many of our new kids in the program, this will be the first time they have run on an indoor track. It is my hope that most will learn what they need to do as far as training during the Holiday Break and carry them over until we resume organized training and competition in January."
On the women's side, juniors Paige Galvin and Jasmine Madison bring the most experience to a young squad. Madison will compete in the 600-meter run along with sophomore Jhaquil Richardson. Galvin will compete in the mile run with freshmen Patricia Olleros and Jessica Smith.

The 4x400-meter relay team will consist of Madison, Richardson, sophomore Gisele Javois and junior Tamara Marshall.
In addition, Marshall will also compete in the 300-meter dash while Javois will run in the 500-meter dash.

He will compete in the 60-meter dash, the 500-meter dash and team with senior Shelby Russell, junior Ricky Fort and junior transfer Quentin Hope in the 4x400-meter relay. The mile run should be a strong event for the Lakers with senior Albert Mong'ony, sophomore Russell Lawless and freshman Alex Foss each entered.
