Clayton State finishes 14th at Bearcat Golf Classic
GREENWOOD, S.C. – March 27, 2012 – With the chance to move up in the team standings in the final round, the Clayton State Laker men's golf team dropped one spot on Tuesday in the Bearcat Golf Classic at the Greenwood Country Club.
The Lakers fired a final-round score of 316 to finish 14th overall in the 17-team field with a 917. Clayton State finished two strokes ahead of Mount Olive and nine strokes ahead of North Georgia. The Lakers wound up eight strokes behind Montevallo.
USC Aiken won the event with an 8-under-par 856, winning by 19 strokes over Georgia College.
Freshman Ryan Haskell had the best individual finish for Clayton State. He had a final-round score of 76 and finished tied for 32nd with a 10-over 226. Fellow freshman Will Shenstone finished tied for 42nd with a 229 (76-75-78), while junior Chris McManus finished tied for 56th with a 231 (79-70-82).
Rounding out the Clayton State scoring was senior Clark Nelson tied for 76th with a 238 (77-81-80), followed by freshman Josh Stanley tied for 81st with a 240 (84-74-82).
Clayton State competes in the Peach Belt Conference Championships on April 9-10 at Callaway Gardens, Ga.
