Clayton State finishes 16th overall at Bobcat Intercollegiate with a 901

EATONTON, Ga. – March 20, 2012 – The Clayton State Laker men's golf team could not gain any ground on Tuesday at the Bobcat Intercollegiate, finishing 16th overall in a talented 17-team field at the Golf Club of Cuscowilla.

The Lakers fired a final-round score of 302 and finished with a three-round total of 901. Clayton State finished 21 strokes ahead of Lander in the final team standings, and 18 strokes off the pace of Valdosta State. No. 3-ranked Barry won the event with an impressive 7-under par 833, out-distancing No. 7 Nova Southeastern by 10 strokes.

This was a field loaded with Division II powers as 12 of the 17 teams are currently nationally-ranked. That also includes five of the Top 10.

Individually for Clayton State, junior Chris McManus finished tied for 67th overall with a 225 (73-73-79). Behind McManus and tied for 70th was senior Clark Nelson (82-73-72) and freshman Will Shenstone (69-82-76) both with a 227. Rounding out the Laker scoring was sophomore Tyson Beaupre tied for 79th with a 231 (76-80-75) and freshman Ryan Haskell in 87th with a 235 (79-76-80).

Lynn's Daniel Young was the individual low medalist with an 8-under 202, edging UNC Pembroke's Justin Walor by one stroke.

The next tournament for Clayton State is the Bearcat Invitational on Monday and Tuesday (March 26-27) in Greenwood, S.C.
