Clayton State finishes eighth at Laker Collegiate Invitational

HAMPTON, Ga. – October 25, 2011 – The Clayton State Laker men's golf team concluded the fall portion of the 2011-12 schedule with an eighth-place finish on Tuesday in its Laker Collegiate Invitational, played at Crystal Laker Golf and Country Club.

Clayton State fired a final-round 305 to finish with a three-round total of 917. The Lakers finished 78 strokes ahead of Gordon, and five strokes behind both Coastal Georgia and Lander. After taking an 11-stroke lead following the first day, UNC Pembroke ran away with team championship with an even-par 864, finishing 16 strokes ahead of Georgia Southwestern and 24 strokes in front of both West Georgia and Coker.

Armstrong Atlantic finished fifth overall with an 894.

For Clayton State individually, junior Chris McManus had the top score with a 228 (77-75-76), followed closely by senior Clark Nelson tied for 26th with a 229 (73-78-78). Freshman Ryan Lort finished tied for 29th with a 231 (78-77-76), while sophomore Tyson Beaupre finished tied for 34th with a 235 (82-78-75) and freshman Will Shenstone finished 44th with a 239 (81-73-85).

Playing as an individual, sophomore Barrett McCarthy finished tied for 40th with a 238 (81-79-78). UNC Pembroke's Jordan Walor was the individual low medalist with a 6-under-par 210.
