Clayton State men’s golf finishes tied for 11th at Aflac/Cougar Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ga. – October 4, 2011 – The Clayton State Laker men's golf team finished up the 2011 Aflac/Cougar Invitational on Tuesday tied for 11th overall after a final-round score of 302 at the Country Club of Columbus.

That gave the Lakers an overall 898 for the three-round event, tied with Coker for 11th in the 17-team field. Clayton State edged Valdosta State by one stroke, Lander by six strokes, Delta State by seven strokes and No. 19 Newberry by eight strokes. The Lakers finished five strokes behind No. 21 Flagler and nine off the pace of Florida Tech.

No. 24 Georgia Southwestern pulled off a tremendous rally with a final-round 279 to overtake No. 3 Lynn by five strokes with an 856.

Freshman Will Shenstone had the highest finish for the Lakers with a 9-over-par 222 (72-77-73). He recorded two birdies in the final round and finished 11 strokes off the pace of individual low medalist Craig Gibson from Georgia Southwestern. Senior Clark Nelson finished tied for 46th overall with a 12-over 225 (75-72-78).

Junior Chris McManus (80-76-73) and sophomore Tyson Beaupre (80-71-78) both finished tied for 58th with a 229. Rounding out the Clayton State scoring was freshman Ryan Lort finishing 77th with a 237 (73-80-84).

Clayton State's next tournament is the TVA Credit Classic on Oct. 17-18 in Florence, Ala.
