AUGUSTA, Ga. – Sophomore
Bianca Kamara (Lilburn, Ga.) has earned her first career Peach Belt Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week recognition as announced by the league on Tuesday, April 3.
Â
Competing at the two-day Emory Classic (3/31) this past weekend Kamara delivered a pair of impressive performances. On Day 1 she delivered a runner-up finish in the long jump, posting a mark of 5.29-meters to best 36 other competitors.
Â
She continued to excel on the final day of events as she posted a personal best in the triple jump. Her distance of 10.06-meters surpassed her previous career mark of 9.67-meters and earned her a 19-of-28 finish.
Â
"A surprise honor for a hard-working Bianca," said head track and field coach
Mike Mead. "She hadn't gotten a measurable mark in her first two outdoor long jump competitions this season but she made a major breakthrough on Friday."
Â
It is the first time since the 2016 season that a member of the Lakers women's track & field program has earned a weekly honor and the first time anyone has accomplished that feat since Jessica Matthews did so on May 4, 2016.
