PEMBROKE, N.C. – Clayton State women's track and field set a program record in the 4x100-meters for the third time this season and earned All-Conference honors on Day 2 of the 2018 Peach Belt Conference Championships on Friday, April 20. As a team they are currently in seventh place.
The 4x100-meter relay team, consisting of sophomores
Nia Elmore (Hinesville, Ga.) and
Jasmine Radford (Lawrenceville, Ga.), junior
Sierra Glenn (Riverdale, Ga.) and freshman
Chaviya Jackson (Albany, Ga.) shattered the previous record of 48.05 set March 31 at the Emory Classic. They easily topped that with an impressive time of 47.42, earning All-PBC Second-Team recognition. It is the second straight year that the Lakers broke that record at the league championships.
Radford followed that stellar performance with a 1-of-23 finish in the 200-meters preliminaries (25.57) and Elmore followed closely behind in fourth place with a time of 25.65. Jackson added a 10
th place finish at 26.14 with Glenn coming in in 12
th (26.34). Radford, Elmore and Jackson will compete in the 200-meter finals Saturday, April 21 at 1:45 p.m.
Competing in the heptathlon, sophomore
Shockera Betty (Tallahassee, Fla.) finished in third place in the multi-event's long jump with a distance of 5.02 meters. One of three competitions in that event on the second day of the championships, she followed that performance with an eighth place finish in the 800-meters (2:55.68) and was 13-of-14 in the triple jump (10.22m). Overall she finished 9-of-11 as the first Laker to compete in the event.
Junior
Ariel Boyd-Ghani (Morrow, Ga.) and freshman
Dalania Clardy (Riverdale, Ga.) added a pair of personal bests to the list of performances. Boyd-Ghani came in in 12
th place in the 800-meters with a time of 2:24.73 while Clardy notched a PR of 10.35-meters in the triple jump.
Clayton State wraps up the PBC Championships tomorrow, Saturday, April 21 with a full schedule of events. The day will begin at 10 a.m. with women's shot put.
NOTES
In competing in the heptathlon, Betty took part in the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200-meters on Day 1. She competed in the long jump, javelin and 800-meters on Day 2 to complete the event.
