AUGUSTA, Ga. – Clayton State sophomores
Joseph Kim (Martinez, Ga.) and
Nick Woof (Leighton Buzzard, England) have made history as the first Lakers to be named to the Peach Belt Conference Men's Golf All-Academic Team in the 10-year history of the award as announced by the league on Tuesday, April 10.
Â
No other members of the men's golf program have earned a spot on that team since the program was established by the league prior to the 2008-09 season.
Â
On the year, Kim delivered a 3.34 GPA while posting a 77.00 stroke average and shot a low round of 71 during Round 2 of the Bearcat Classic. He was also one of five Lakers that helped the team to a third place finish at the Hurricane Invitational (2/27) and is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Â
Woof has been one of Clayton State's more impressive golfers this season as he has qualified for seven of the eight tournaments while maintaining a 3.32 GPA. Over the course of 19 rounds he has notched a 74.79 stroke average and earned runner-up honors at the Hurricane Invitational.
Â
At that same tournament he shot a team season low 68 during the first round. Additionally, he tied for 11-of-96 at the Newberry College Invitational (2/20) and also serves on SAAC.
Â
Kim and Woof are among 14 individuals selected to the men's team this year. In order to qualify for the Academic All-Conference Team, student-athletes must have been at their institution for one calendar year, have achieved a cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.30 or higher on a 4.0 scale and competed in at least 50-percent of their sport as a significant contributor.
Â
The GPA is calculated through the previous semester and an individual that is a graduate transfer to an institution other than where they earned their undergraduate degree is immediately eligible.
Â
"Joseph and Nick have done really well on and off the course," said head coach
Hank Kim. "I'm very proud of their ability to manage their time to get things done and be the first to accomplish this."
Â
The Peach Belt Conference Men's Golf Academic All-Conference Teams are released near the close of the regular season each year and prior to the conference championship. Clayton State men's golf is back in action this weekend when they begin the three day PBC Tournament on Friday, April 13 when they head to Flagler.
