ATLANTA, Ga. – Clayton State women's track and field set a program record in the 4x100-meter relay and finished with six personal bests on Day 2 of the Emory Classic on Saturday, March 31. As a team, they delivered an impressive 10-of-22 finish.
That 4x100-meter relay team consisting of sophomores
Nia Elmore (Hinesville, Ga.) and
Jasmine Radford (Lawrenceville, Ga.), junior
Sierra Glenn (Riverdale, Ga.) and freshman
Chaviya Jackson (Albany, Ga.) shattered the previous program record of 48.41 set last weekend at the Emory Invitational on March 24, running a 48.05. That effort earned them a 2-of-17 finish.
Junior
Jhade Hayes (Land O'Lakes, Fla.) contributed to the Top-10 performances for the Lakers as she finished 7-of-41 in the discus. That outing would be fueled by a personal best of 37.26 meters.
The 4x400-meter relay of sophomore
Bianca Kamara (Lilburn, Ga.), Glenn, Jackson and Radford added a seventh place finish at 4:05.32 and Radford followed with a strong individual performance, finishing 13-of-47 in the 400-meters with a personal best of 1:00.17. Jackson added an 18-of-47 finish, setting a personal best of 1:01.16.
Junior
Hailey Budd (Hartwell, Ga.) delivered an impressive performance in the 5,000-meters, finishing 7-of-16 (21:33.94) and sophomore
Laura Shkembi (Oostende, Belgium) followed closely in that same event with another personal best for the Lakers. She finished ninth at 21:52.79. Junior
Ariel Boyd-Ghani (Morrow, Ga.) notched a personal best of 5:13.78 in the 1,500-meters and picked up a 9-of-39 finish while sophomore
Lynnet Kosgei (Eldoret, Kenya
) came in 16
th (5:26.16).
In the triple jump, junior
Destiny Johnson (New Iberia, La.) added a strong performance, finishing 11-of-28 at 10.70 meters and Kamara added to the list of personal bests. She finished 19-of-28 with a mark of 10.06 meters.
Elmore and sophomore
Shockera Betty (Tallahassee, Fla.) rounded things out with a pair of strong finishes in the 100-meters. Elmore finished in 12
th place at 12.65 while Betty finished 22-of-58 at 13.15.
"I was very pleased," said head coach
Mike Mead. "We had a productive weekend, especially in the field events and relays."
The Lakers return to action on Friday, April 6 as they head to Rome, Georgia for the Berry Invitational.
NOTES
With the 4x100-meter relay record, Elmore has now been part of nine records, either team or relay, between the 207-18 indoor and outdoor seasons.
