ATLANTA, Ga. – Sophomore
Jasmine Radford (Lawrenceville, Ga.) was part of a record setting performance and paced three top five finishes as Clayton State women's track & field closed out the Emory Invitational on Saturday, March 24.
Radford teamed with fellow sophomore
Nia Elmore (Hinesville, Ga.), junior
Sierra Glenn (Riverdale, Ga.) and freshman
Chaviya Jackson (Albany, Ga.) to break the program record in the 4x100-meter relay, posting a time of 48.41.
That performance surpassed the previous mark of 48.73 set by Glenn, Elmore, current sophomore
Ja'Via Grice (Augusta, Ga.) and
Kemjika Finebone at the 2017 Peach Belt Conference Championships on April 22. Overall, they finished 2-of-9 with that record setting outing.
Individually, Radford finished 3-of-62 in the 200-meters with a personal best mark of 25.71 and Elmore notched a 7-of-62 finish in the 200-meters with a time of 25.92. Sophomore
Shockera Betty (Tallahassee, Fla.) delivered a 17
th place finish in that same event (26.91).
Junior
Destiny Johnson (New Iberia, La.) added to the strong performances with a 4-of-23 finish in the triple jump, posting a mark of 11.10 meters. Freshman
Dalania Clardy (Riverdale, Ga.) followed up with a 14-of-23 finish (10.05 meters) with sophomore
Bianca Kamara (Lilburn, Ga.) not far behind in 18
th (9.67 meters) to round out that event.
Glenn delivered an 8-of-51 finish in the 400-meters with a mark of 1:00.16 and Kamara followed with a 20-of-51 finish behind a personal best of 1:02.30. Sophomore
Laura Shkembi (Oostende, Belgium) won her heat in the 1,500-meters with a time of 5:22.44 and notched an overall 34-of-66 finish. Junior
Jhade Hayes (Land O'Lakes, Fla.) added a 12-of-47 finish in the discus with a mark 34.42 meters.
The Lakers return to action on Friday, March 30 as they head back to Emory University for the Emory Classic.
NOTES
The time of 48.41 marks the third time in less than two seasons that the program record for 4x100-meter relay has been broken … in addition to the mark during the PBC Championships, Glenn, Elmore, Finebone and Grice broke a nearly decade old record (2008) on March 25, 2017.
