WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Junior
Destiny Johnson (New Iberia, La,) tied her own program record in the high jump as Clayton State track & field closed out the indoor season with five events at the JDL Last Chance Invitational on Sunday, February 25. The men's program competed in a pair of events while the women's saw action in three.
Â
Johnson came in 4-of-5 in the high jump but the story was the height she cleared to notch that finish. On her third height she cleared 1.60-meters on her first try, equaling her own program record set on February 3 at the Sewanee Indoor Invitational. She would add a 9-of-10 outing in the triple jump at 10.74-meters, which was 0.01 of tying her personal best set at the Dunamis Super Meet (2/9).
Sophomore
Nia Elmore (Hinesville, Ga.) rounded out things for the women with a strong performance in the 60-meters, finishing 7-of-21 with a finals time of 7.98.
For the men, junior
T.J. Witherspoon (Thomasville, Ga.) finished with a personal best, coming in 8-of-16 in the 800-meters with a time of 1:56.10. That surpasses his PR of 1:57.51 set on January 21 at the Emory CrossPlex Invitational. Senior
Andrew Omoregbe (Stockbridge, Ga.) delivered a 6-of-11 finish in the high jump with 1.90-meters.
Â
The Lakers return to action on Saturday, March 3 as they head to Rome, Georgia for the Victor Icebreaker Duals Meet. Hosted by Berry College, that meet will mark the beginning of the outdoor season.
