NEW ORLEANS, La. – Clayton State outdoor track & field has garnered a pair of United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Southeast Region honors as announced by that organization on Tuesday, May 17.
Representing the men's program was senior
Marcus Lafleur (Douglasville, Ga.) who earned his second All-Region honor in 2016-17 as he was recognized in the 1,500-meters. He also delivered an All-Peach Belt Conference performance in that event with a runner-up finish late last month. During the indoor season he picked up his All-Region recognition in the 800-meters.
On the women's side, sophomore
Destiny Johnson (New Iberia, La.) claimed the first All-Region honor of her career. A competitor in both the track and field aspects of the sport, she earned her recognition in the high jump, an event she notched All-PBC honors in last month. Additionally, she was part of 4x100-meter relay team that broke the school record twice, including at the PBC Championships.
In order to earn All-Region recognition, an individual has to either finish in the top five in their region in individual events or be a member of a relay team ranked in the region's top three.
"A nice finish to Marcus' career with his second All-Region honor this season," said head men's and women's track & field coach
Mike Mead. "It was also nice to see Destiny finish the season on a high note at conference, resulting in her first All-Region award."
