MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Following back-to-back days with All-Conference performances, Clayton State women's track & field delivered something just as impressive on the final day of the 2017 Peach Belt Conference Championships on Saturday, April 22.
The 4x100-meter relay team of senior
Kemjika Finebone (Douglasville, Ga.), sophomore
Sierra Glenn (Riverdale, Ga.) and freshmen
Ja'Via Grice (Augusta, Ga.) and
Nia Elmore (Hinesville, Ga.) broke the program record for the second time this season.
That group posted a time of 48.73, bettering their own record of 49.33 set at the Emory Classic (3/25) by more than a second. The performance was good for a 6-of-8 finish. Junior
Chelsy Haynes (Buena Vista, Ga.) rounded out the Lakers top performers in the shot put, finishing 7-of-20 with a distance of 10.90-meters.
Over the course of the meet, Clayton State notched a pair of All-Conference honorees with sophomore
Destiny Johnson (New Iberia, La.) and redshirt-junior
Latrese Hubbard (Cusseta, Ga.) accomplishing the feat. Both finished second in their respective events, Johnson in the high jump and Hubbard in the hammer.
The Lakers have now closed out the main portion of their schedule and will move on to a pair of "last chance meets". These will feature individuals with a chance to qualify for the 2017 NCAA Division II National Championships and will include the Tennessee Challenge (May 6) and the Aggie Last Chance Meet (May 14).
