Keith Egan Collects Second Career PBC Golfer of the Week Honor Following Medalist Performance

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Fresh off his first collegiate tournament championship, senior Keith Egan (Newbridge, Ireland) has been named the Men's Golfer of the Week by the Peach Belt Conference as announced by the league on Thursday, March 9. It is the second of his career.

Competing at the Southern Tide Classic, Egan found himself tied for 16th after shooting a 73-75-148 over the first 36 holes. It would be the final 18 that would be the difference maker, however, as he shot a tournament low 67 to finish with a 215 and claim medalist honors for the first time in his collegiate career.

That score was one-under par while his 67 was five-under par for a round. He would need all of it as he finished one stroke ahead of Coker's Will Bundy.

"I have been waiting for Keith to break through and get his first win in college golf," said head coach Hank Kim. "For the past four years he has been working so hard on his game, it's great to finally see all the hard work has paid off. He deserves this more than anyone. I'm looking forward to him finishing off a strong season."

Egan is one of just seven individuals in program history who have earned the honor, including current PGA member Will Wilcox (4), Fredrik Lindblom (2), who was the last Laker to win a tournament, Andres Caballero (1), Ryan Haskell (1), Henry Gee (1) and Alex Vetnar (1). The PBC has given the award since the 2007-08 season and these seven individuals have combined to take home 12 such honors.

With Caballero's selection earlier this season on February 23, it is also just the fourth year that Clayton State has earned multiple awards during a season. Wilcox picked up three of his in 2008-09 while Lindblom earned a pair in 2013-14. The only other time came in 2014-15 when Gee and Haskell pulled off the feat.

Clayton State returns to action on March 20-21 when they play in the Bobcat Invitational. Held in Eatonton, Georgia the tournament will be hosted by Georgia College and be the team's second-to-last before the Peach Belt Conference Championships.
