NEW ORLEANS, La. – Clayton State men's indoor track & field has once again claimed a United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Southeast Region honor as senior
Marcus Lafleur (Douglasville, Ga.) has picked up the first of his career as announced by that organization on Monday, February 27.
Lafleur has had an outstanding senior season and capped off the indoor portion with a mark he wasn't even in line for originally. This year he competed in the 800-meters, where he earned his All-Region recognition, just once.
That came in a meet the Lakers were not originally scheduled to compete in, the University of North Carolina hosted Kent Taylor Invitational, and in an event that Lafleur wasn't scheduled to compete.
As a result of the last minute addition to the schedule and a gameday adjustment that put him in the 800-meters, the Douglasville native ran a personal best 1:56.53 to win the event ahead of 22 other competitors, including a pair from Division I institutions. His time also topped anything he had produced in the outdoor season in that event during his career.
"Another nice honor for Marcus in a productive senior season," said head men's track & field coach
Mike Mead. "He's been the most consistent performer on this team so far this track season."
In order to earn All-Region recognition, an individual has to either finish in the top five in their region in individual events or be a member of a relay team ranked in the region's top three.
