BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Junior
Andrew Omoregbe (Stockbridge, Ga.) broke his own school record and led the way as Clayton State men's track & field competed in the elite and primarily Division I Jaguar Indoor Invitational on Sunday, February 5. The meet was held at the Birmingham Crossplex, site of the 2017 NCAA Division II National Championships.
Â
Omoregbe notched a height of 1.96-meters in the high jump, eclipsing his previous mark of 1.95m. He set that height in his very first collegiate event, doing so at the BSC Panther Indoor Icebreaker on December 5, 2014. Today he placed 3-of-9 and trailed only a pair of DI competitors.
Â
Sophomore
T.J. Witherspoon (Thomasville, Ga.) notched a Top-10 finish, placing 10-of-24 in the 800-meters (1:57.80), while senior
Marcus Lafleur (Douglasville, Ga.) finished 14-of-30 in the mile with a time of 4:25.59.
Â
Redshirt-junior
Adarion Watson (Stockbridge, Ga.) put forth an impressive performance in the 60-meters as he finished 22-of-36. He delivered a personal best time of 7.09 and was the third highest non-DI finisher. Senior
Rafael Salis (Atlanta, Ga.) rounded things out in the 800-meters, finishing 15-of-24 with a time of 1:59.93.
Â
The meet featured more than 851 other competitors with the Lakers being one of six non-Division I opponents. Those included Mississippi College, North Alabama, Shorter and West Alabama along with junior college Meridian Community College. The Division I competitors included teams such as Georgia Tech, Florida A&M, Louisiana Tech, Southern Miss, Texas State and host South Alabama.
Â
The Lakers return to action Saturday, February 18, when they head to the UCS Invitational. That meet will be hosted by Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
