POOLER, Ga. – Junior
Andres Caballero (Mexico City, Mexico) proved to be one of the best players in a field that featured five nationally ranked teams and Clayton State men's golf tied for seventh at the 2017 Pirate Invitational on Tuesday, February 28. They shot a 313-310-293-916 to deadlock with Georgia College and host Armstrong State.
Over the course of 54 holes, Caballero delivered a 76-75-68-219 to finish tied for fourth in the field of 66. Additionally, his 68 during Round 3 tied for the third lowest of the tournament, trailing only eventual champion Richard Mansell (65, Rd. 1) of Nova Southeastern and a 67 shot by Lander's Conor Richards in Round 3. Caballero was also the second-highest finishing Peach Belt Conference golfer, trailing only North Georgia's Matt Elliott (3
rd, 217).

Sophomore
Jack Clark (The Vintage, Pokolbin, New South Wales, Australia) came through with a tie for 19
th after shooting 79-75-74-228. That moved him up five spots from the day before and freshman
Nick Woof (Leighton Buzzard, England) finished tied for 53
rd (81-85-71-237) lowered his best round score of the tournament by 10 strokes.

Headlining this year's field were eventual champion No 5 Nova Southeastern, No. 7 North Alabama, No. 14 Valdosta State, No. 15 Lander and No. 22 Flagler. The remainder of the field included Armstrong State, Georgia College, Young Harris, North Georgia, West Georgia and Albany State. The tournament was held at Savannah Quarters Country Club in Pooler, Georgia, a facility that features an 18-hole Greg Norman Signature Golf Course.
The Lakers are back in action from March 6-7 when they compete in the Southern Tide Classic. Hosted by Limestone, the tournament will be played in Greenville, South Carolina at the Green Valley Country Club.
