WINGATE, N.C. – Clayton State women's cross country closed out the 2017 season with a solid 11-of-23 finish at the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Championships on Saturday, November 4. As a team they finished with 367 points.

Carla Catala Martin (Barcelona, Spain) led the Lakers with a 41-of-159 finish, posting a time of 24:20.77. She was followed by senior
Joy Diaz (Riverdale, Ga.) in 55
th with a mark of 24:41.83 and junior
Ariel Boyd-Ghani (Morrow, Ga.) at 72
nd (25:10.47).

Lynnet Kosgei (Eldoret, Kenya) was the next highest finisher in 81
st (25:18.89) with senior
Hailey Budd (Hartwell, Ga.) coming in 134
th with a time of 28:14.64. Sophomore
Laura Shkembi (Oostende, Belgium) rounded things out in 141
st (29:12.65).

Queens claimed the Southeast Region Championship with 76 points and was followed by Anderson (94), Mount Olive (112), North Georgia (116) and host Wingate (131) in the top five.

The Lakers close out the 2017 season following a six meet campaign.

The 11
th place finish was the highest by the program in a regional since finishing fourth in 2013.
