AUGUSTA, Ga. – With the close of the regular season, a pair of Clayton State student-athletes have been named to the 2017 Peach Belt Conference Men's Soccer All-Academic Team.
Sophomore
Jordan Knight (Javea, Spain.) and senior
Sekou Thornell (Atlanta, Ga.) qualified for the team as a result of excellence in the classroom paired with success on the field. Knight notched a 3.79 GPA as a Political Science major while Thornell was not far behind at 3.46 in Business.
It is the first such honor for Knight, in his first year of eligibility while Thornell earns his second selection after previously being named to the All-Academic Team following the 2015 season.
In order to qualify for the Academic All-Conference Team, student-athletes must have been at their institution for one calendar year, have achieved a cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.30 or higher on a 4.0 scale and competed in at least 50-percent of their sport as a significant contributor. The GPA is calculated through the previous semester.
The Peach Belt Conference Men's Soccer Academic All-Conference Team is released near the end of the regular season every year and prior to the conference championship.
Clayton State will be back in action on Friday, November 3 in Evans, Georgia for the 2017 Peach Belt Conference Semifinals. They will take on regular season champion and No. 1 seed Lander at 5 p.m.
