AUGUSTA, Ga. – With the close of the regular season, three Clayton State student-athletes have been named to the 2017 Peach Belt Conference Men's Cross Country All-Academic Team.
Junior
T.J. Witherspoon (Thomasville, Ga.) and sophomores
Evan Ortiz (McDonough, Ga.) and
Keldren Reddick (Thomasville, Ga.) qualified for the team as a result of excellence in the classroom paired with success on the course. Ortiz and Reddick notched a 3.31 GPA as Computer Science and Business majors, respectively, while Witherspoon was not far behind at 3.44 in Biology.
For Witherspoon, the selection marks the second straight year being named to the All-Academic Team. It is the first such honor for the two sophomores in their first year of eligibility.
In order to qualify for the Academic All-Conference Team, student-athletes must have been at their institution for one calendar year, have achieved a cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.30 or higher on a 4.0 scale and competed in at least 50-percent of their sport as a significant contributor. The GPA is calculated through the previous semester.
The Peach Belt Conference Men's Cross Country Academic All-Conference Team is released near the end of the regular season every year and prior to the conference championship.
Clayton State will be back in action on Saturday, November 4 in Wingate, North Carolina for the 2017 NCAA Division II Southeast Region Championship.
