AUGUSTA, Ga. – Coming off a season that featured some of the most impressive honors she could earn, graduate midfielder
Maria Marti Bartis (Girona, Spain) has been named to the All-Peach Belt Conference Women's Soccer Preseason Team as announced by the league on Thursday, August 18.
With totals of 11 goals and three assists for 25 points, Marti Bartis ranked third in game-winning goals (4), fifth in goals and sixth in points in the PBC last season. She also assisted on the game-winner in overtime against No. 3 North Georgia (10/14) and scored in 10-of-18 games, including six straight from September 11-30.
She would collect a number of awards on the season, including D2CCA All-Southeast Region First-Team, NSCAA All-Southeast Region Third-Team, All-Peach Belt Conference First-Team and a pair of PBC Player of the Week honors on September 21 and October 19.
As impressive as those accolades were, they were easily surpassed by what Marti Bartis accomplished in the classroom. An All-Peach Belt Conference Academic Team selection, she would go on to earn a College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District honor before accomplishing something no other Laker has.
On November 23, she would become the first ever CoSIDA Academic All-America First-Team honoree in the 26-year history of Clayton State Athletics. She would also be only the second individual to achieve Academic All-America honors, joining cross country/track & field's Robert Spezzacatena, who was a Third-Team choice in 2012.
Maria Marti Bartis has now been named to the All-Peach Belt Conference Preseason Team for two straight years, earning her first such honor before last season.
Clayton State women's soccer opens the season on the road when they travel to West Georgia on Thursday, September 1 and then take on Christian Brothers in Nashville, Tennessee on Saturday, September 3.
