AUGUSTA, Ga. – Following an impressive first season with Clayton State, graduate forward Iain Smith (Suwanee, Ga.) has been named to the All-Peach Belt Conference Preseason Team as announced by the league on Wednesday, August 17.
 
Smith delivered a strong campaign with five goals and four assists in 1,412 minutes while starting in all 16 games. The former Clemson product notched a pair of goals in his very first game as a Laker and found his way into the NCAA Division II record books at the same time.
 
With a pair of goals eight seconds apart in the second half of that 3-1 win, Smith tied the Division II record for fastest consecutive goals. He equaled the marks of Florida International's George Moyssidis (10/20/79) and Steve Lose of Florida Southern (9/12/87), making him the first to accomplish the feat in nearly 30 years.
 
Additionally, he was named Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week on September 8 and scored at least one goal in each of his first three games. He also delivered a pair of assists against Emmanuel (10/5) and scored against No. 12 Lander in the team's PBC Quarterfinal.
 
Clayton State men's soccer opens the season facing one of the toughest teams in the country as they host No. 5 Palm Beach Atlantic on Thursday, September 1.
