NORMAN, Okla. – Following a tremendous 2015-16 season, junior
Keith Egan (Newbridge, Ireland) has collected another major award as he has been named to the Division II PING All-Southeast Region team as announced on Monday, May 16 by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
Â
Egan is one of just 12 student-athletes to earn that honor within the region and among 112 nationwide. It is an honor that is well deserved as he finished the season with a 74.00 stroke average to lead the team and became just the fifth Laker to be selected to play in the NCAA Division II Tournament as an individual.
Â
This season he was selected to the All-Peach Belt Conference Second-Team and was the PBC Golfer of the Week on March 3. He also finished a very respectable 32-of-108 in the NCAA South/Southeast Regional, shooting a 225 (75-75-75) and tied for 15
th at the South/Southeast Regional Preview (3/1).
Â
Facing a field that had 13 nationally ranked teams, including No. 1 St. Leo, No. 2 Chico State, No. 4 Nova Southeastern, No. 5 Florida Southern and No. 10 Lynn, Egan posted a 227 (75-72-80). He would also tie for sixth at the Seventh Annual Bearcat Classic (3/29) and tie for 10
th at the Bobcat Invitational (3/22). The latter featured six teams in the Top-10.
Â
Among the 11 other selections joining Egan are a National Player of the Year Semifinalist (Ethan Chamineak, Georgia Southwestern), an individual national qualifier (Griffin Brown, Limestone) and the No. 1 ranked Division II golfer for much of the year (Brad Hawkins, Tusculum).
Â
He is just the seventh overall All-Region selection in program history, and only the fifth different individual to accomplish that feat. He joins Fredrik Lindblom (2014), Wade Binfield (2009), Will Wilcox (2007, 2008, 2009) and Dave Kelly (1999) as the only other such honorees.
