ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – For just the eighth time in program history, and third in the last seven years, Clayton State men's golf has had a player named All-Peach Belt Conference as junior
Keith Egan (Newbridge, Ireland) landed a spot on the Second-Team as announced by the league at their annual banquet on Thursday, April 14.
Â
It is the first time the Lakers have had a player selected to one of the teams since 2014 when Fredrik Lindblom was not only a First-Team choice, but also the PBC Player of the Year.
Â
Egan has played 21 rounds this season and leads the club with a 73.48 stroke average. The latter is also good for 12
th in the league. He has also has earned a pair of Top-10 finishes, shot eight rounds of at least par, posted a low round of 69 and low 54-hole mark of 214, all in just seven tournaments. His 69 came in the second round at the North Georgia Fall Invitational from October 5-6 and tied for the second lowest on the team.
Â
Currently he is ranked No. 6 in the South/Southeast Region standings and has an excellent chance to earn a spot in the NCAA Division II Championships as an individual. He would join a very short list of Clayton State players to make that trip as an individual.
Â
With his selection, Egan becomes just the sixth individual to earn an All-PBC nod and the eighth overall selection. He joins Lindblom, Wade Binfield (2010, Second-Team), Will Wilcox (2008, 2009), Dave Kelly (1999, 2000) and Michael Farley (1998) as the only players to accomplish that feat.
Â
Wilcox was the first Laker to be named Player of the Year, doing so in 2009, and has since been joined by Lindblom as the only such honorees in program history. Prior to 2010, the Peach Belt selected just one team of eight individuals.
Â
Egan and Clayton State men's golf return to action tomorrow, Friday, April 15 as they face 10 other schools at the 2016 Peach Belt Conference Championship in St. Augustine, Florida.
