AUGUSTA, Ga. – As the league championships approach, Clayton State has had a student-athlete named to the 2016 Peach Belt Conference Men's Track & Field All-Academic Team.
Â
Junior
Troy Hickom (Cartersville, Ga.) earned this prestigious honor for a second consecutive year while majoring in Pre-Engineering. He is among just 27 such honorees in the Peach Belt this season.
"A nice honor for Troy," said head coach
Mike Mead. "He is an ideal student-athlete and he's represented us well!"
Â
A three-year member of the Lakers track & field program, he has competed primarily in the 1,500- and 5,000-meters in outdoor this year while seeing action in the distance medley relay, mile, 4x800-meters, 3,000-meters and 800-meters in indoor. Combined, he has helped account for five top five finishes, including first place in the DMR at the Tiger Indoor Invitational (2/6).
Â
In order to qualify for the Academic All-Conference Team, student-athletes must have been at their institution for one calendar year, have achieved a cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.30 or higher on a 4.0 scale and competed in at least 50-percent of their sport as a significant contributor. The GPA is calculated through the previous semester.
Â
The Peach Belt Conference Men's Track & Field Academic All-Conference Teams are released near the close of the regular season each year and prior to the conference championship. Clayton State returns to action when they head to Pembroke, N.C. for the 2016 PBC Championships from April 21-23.
