AUGUSTA, Ga. – In the illustrious history of Clayton State women's basketball, no team has ever had more than three players selected to the All-Peach Belt Conference Team, a mark which the 2015-16 squad has just equaled with three players named to this year's team.
Â
Following a tremendous regular season that has seen them go 22-5 with a berth in the PBC Tournament Semifinals, the Lakers have landed senior center
DaQuenna Moore (Plantersville, S.C.) on the Second-Team and senior guard
Kenisha Jones-Barrett (Winter Haven, Fla.) and redshirt-junior forward
Andrea Benford (Madison, Ga.) on the Third-Team.
Â
Moore earned her first career All-PBC honor by starting all 26 games she appeared in and putting up averages of 10.1 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.6 steals per game. She also shot .478 from the field, all in just 25.7 minutes per outing.
Â
On the season she has recorded 16 double-figure scoring games, 10 double-digit rebound efforts and six double-doubles. She also ripped down 17 boards vs. Georgia Southwestern, one short of her career-high, and had a near program-record nine offensive rebounds among her 15 at Augusta.
Â
It is also the first career PBC honor for Jones-Barrett, who has been a threat on both offense and defense all season long. This year she has played in all 27 games, starting 24, and averaged 10.5 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.4 steals. She ranks fifth overall in total steals (66) among all PBC players and second in league contests.
Â
Among her most impressive accomplishments this year are 14 double-digit scoring games, including a career-high 25 points at Montevallo. The latter was part of five game stretch that saw her average 16.6 points and 4.2 steals. Jones-Barrett also produced 19 games with at least two steals, headlined by a season-best seven steals with 16 points vs. Georgia Southwestern.
Â
Benford earns her second All-PBC Third-Team recognition, adding to the one she achieved in her first year with Clayton State in 2013-14. She becomes just the 10
th player in program history to earn multiple All-Conference selections and the first to do so in non-consecutive seasons. Her two selections are also the second most in team history, trailing only Tanisha Woodard who was named to three straight teams over the course of the 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons.
Â
This year she returned to action after sitting out the 2014-15 campaign and averaged 9.1 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.1 blocks, all while playing in 26 games and starting 12 of those. Named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week on December 21, Benford would post 13 double-figure scoring games, including a pair of 20-point efforts.
Â
She would also put together four double-doubles, headlined by 16 points, 13 boards and five blocks in a win over Lander and 13 points, 11 rebounds and five steals vs. Georgia Southwestern.
Â
In addition to Woodard's three selections, Benford joins Catreia Shaw (2001-03), Shelcey Harp (2004-06), Jasmine Patterson (2004-06), Sharon Wiles (2005-07), Shantel Ragin 2006-08), Teshymia Tillman (2009-11), Drameka Griggs (2011-13) and Shacamra Jackson (2012-14) as the only players to earn multiple selections.
Â
As a team, the Lakers equal the program record of three selections held by the 2004-05 (Jamika Hindsman, Harp, Patterson), 2005-06 (Harp, Patterson, Wiles), 2011-12 (Woodard,
Brittany Hall, Griggs) and 2012-13 (Griggs, Kayla Mobley, Jackson) teams.
Â
This year's three selections also marks the 12
th consecutive year that Clayton State has had at least one player named to the All-Peach Belt Conference Team and the 14
th year out of the last 15. In their 21 years as a member of the league they have had a player so honored in 15 of those years.
