AUGUSTA, Ga. – Following the most impressive week of his collegiate career, junior midfielder
Ryan King (County Durham, England) has been named the Peach Belt Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week as announced by the league on Monday, October 31.
Â
King produced the best week of the season for the Lakers as he registered four goals and a pair of assists for 10 points, all in just two games.
Â
At eventual PBC No. 2 seed North Georgia (10/26), King exploded for three goals and an assist in leading the Lakers to a convincing 5-2 victory. That win kept Clayton State in the running for a bid to the PBC Tournament.
Â
He would follow that up in the regular season finale against Flagler (10/29) with a goal and an assist. That performance would keep the Lakers in the game before dropping a heartbreaking 4-3 overtime loss.
Â
On the season King has 12 goals and three assists for 27 points. He finishes the regular season tied for second in goals in the PBC, trailing only by one score, and third in points by just four.
Â
Since joining the Peach Belt in 1995 as a provisional member, the Lakers have had at least one Player of the Week selection in 16 seasons, including every year from 2000-11. Leighton Fredericks holds the all-time mark with three selections with two coming in 2008 and a third in 2009.
Â
It also continues a streak of 17 straight seasons that the program has had at least one weekly honoree, dating back to the 2000 campaign.
Â
Overall the program has claimed a total of 49 weekly honorees from Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week and Goalkeeper of the Week. In 2007, the Peach Belt went from recognizing just one individual to honoring two per week and eventually three award winners beginning in 2008.
Â
King and the Lakers wrapped up the 2016 season on Saturday, October 29 against Flagler.
