AUGUSTA, Ga. – With another outstanding week in the books, graduate midfielder Maria Marti Bartis (Girona, Spain) has been named the Peach Belt Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week as announced by the league on Monday, October 3.
 
Over the course of two games she produced two goals and three assists for seven points in helping Clayton State to a victory and a tie.
 
Marti Bartis opened the week by recording a goal and an assist in the Lakers 2-2 tie against Montevallo (9/28). In that game she setup Manoly Baquerizo (Guayaquil, Ecudador) in the ninth minute before the latter returned the favor on Marti Bartis' goal at 21:32.
 
It would be an even more impressive outing for Clayton State's offensive leader against Francis Marion (10/1). Marti Bartis blasted home a goal and assisted on two others to finish with four points in a 4-0 victory.
 
She assisted on the second and third goals before driving home one of her own in the 58^th minute to wrap up the week. That last score tied her for third all-time in program history with 32 career goals in just three seasons. She equaled the mark of Natalia Valentine who scored 32 goals from 2009-12.
 
On the year, her 17 points leads the Peach Belt Conference (by four points) and she is tied for the lead in goals (6) and second in assists (5).
 
It is Marti Bartis' fourth such honor of her career and first this season. Previously, she was selected as PBC Player of the Week on September 21 and October 19 of 2015 as well as September 15, 2014.
 
Since the Peach Belt began sponsoring women's soccer in 2000, the Lakers have had at least one Player of the Week selection in 12-of-17 seasons, including each of the past four years. Olatian Yusuf holds the all-time mark with six selections with two each in 2004 and 2005 and one apiece in 2006 and 2007.
 
Overall the program has claimed a total of 39 weekly honorees from Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week and Goalkeeper of the Week. In 2007, the Peach Belt went from recognizing just one individual to honoring two per week and three weekly starting in 2008.
 
Marti Bartis and Clayton State return to action on Wednesday, October 5 when they travel to rival No. 13 Columbus State (7-2, 3-1). Game time is set for 6 p.m. in Columbus, Georgia.
