Clayton State's Alfonso Davis Named to All-Peach Belt Conference Preseason Team; Second Ever

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Coming off of one of the most impressive seasons in recent memory, senior forward Alfonso Davis (Bronx, N.Y.) has been named to the 2016 All-Peach Belt Conference Preseason Team as announced by the league on Wednesday, October 26.

A group of just five players, Davis becomes only the second Laker to be named to the team since its inception prior to the 2007-08 season. He joins former All-American Brandon Robinson who was selected to the 2010-11 team.

Also named to the team this season are Keshun Sherrill (Augusta), C.J. Wilson (Young Harris), J.R. Washington (Lander) and Detrek Browning (Francis Marion).

A versatile forward, Davis took the Peach Belt by storm last season, earning Defensive Player of the Year and All-PBC Second-Team honors. He became just the second Laker to be named Defensive Player of the Year, joining Juron Dobbs who won it following the 2012-13 season.

On the season he played in all 26 games, starting 23, and averaged 17.7 points, 7.9 rebounds, 1.8 blocks, 1.2 assists and 0.9 steals per game while shooting .568 from the field and .776 at the foul line.

Highlighting his top individuals performances were 21 double-figure scoring games, including 14 of 20 points or more, and a program record-tying 19 boards with 28 points, four assists and five blocks against Georgia College. He would also score in double-digits in each of his last 16 games while producing 20-point games in 13 of his last 15 games.

At Augusta he delivered 33 points, going 15-of-18 from the foul line, and hauled in 10 rebounds for one of his seven double-doubles. He was just seven points shy of tying the program record set in 1998-99 and his 15 free throws were four short of the all-time single game mark set in 2006.

Within the league, he ranked second in total blocks, fifth in rebounds per game, eighth in scoring, ninth in field goal percentage and was named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week (Jan. 18).

A transfer from Paine College under head coach Jimmy Link, Davis also surpassed the 1,000-point plateau for his career (between both institutions) and now enters his senior season with 1,016.

"Really happy for Alfonso," said Link. "He deserves it! He is going to graduate in May with a Business degree and have a great year and lead this team. Not only is he a great player, but also a great person."
