AUGUSTA, Ga. – With the close of the regular season, two Clayton State student-athletes have been named to the 2016 Peach Belt Conference Men's Cross Country All-Academic Team.
Senior
Troy Hickom (Cartersville, Ga.) and sophomore
T.J. Witherspoon (Thomasville, Ga.) qualified for the team as a result of excellence in the classroom paired with success on the course. Witherspoon notched a 3.58 GPA as a Biology major while Hickom was not far behind at 3.47 in Pre-Engineering.
For Hickom, the selection marks the third straight year being named to the All-Academic Team. That third selection is also the most one can achieve as eligibility begins following an individual's freshman season.
In order to qualify for the Academic All-Conference Team, student-athletes must have been at their institution for one calendar year, have achieved a cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.30 or higher on a 4.0 scale and competed in at least 50-percent of their sport as a significant contributor. The GPA is calculated through the previous semester.
The Peach Belt Conference Men's Cross Country Academic All-Conference Team is released near the end of the regular season every year and prior to the conference championship.
Clayton State will be back in action on Saturday, November 5 in Montevallo, Alabama for the 2016 NCAA Division II Southeast Region Championship.
