MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Senior
Marcus Lafleur (Douglasville, Ga.) earned All-Conference honors for the first time in his career as Clayton State finished 8-of-10 at the 2016 Peach Belt Conference Championships on Saturday, October 22. As a team, the Lakers finished with 167 points.
Lafleur led the way as he finished 9-of-86 with another personal best 8k time of 25:38.00, surpassing his previous mark by 14 seconds. That time was not only the 12
th fastest 8k time in program history, it was also the seventh fastest run by a Laker at the PBC Championships.
He is the first member of the men's cross country program to All-PBC honors since
Job Kemboi did so in 2014 in winning the individual title.
Following him was sophomore
Ryan Polk (Marietta, Ga.) who came in 22
nd with a time of 26:23.30 and senior
Troy Hickom (Cartersville, Ga.) who was 36
th at 26:45.10. Sophomore
T.J. Witherspoon (Thomasville, Ga.) rounded out the Lakers top finishers with a time of 27:23.30 to finish 49
th.
The 2016 Peach Belt Conference Championships were held at the Council Farm just outside of Milledgeville, Georgia and hosted by Georgia College. It was the third time that that institution earned that honor.
Clayton State returns to the course when they travel to Montevallo, Alabama for the 2016 NCAA Division II Southeast Regional. That 10k event will be held on November 5 and be hosted by Montevallo.
