USTFCCCA All-Region Release
NEW ORLEANS, La. – Two members of the Clayton State men's outdoor track & field program have earned a total of three U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Southeast Region honors as announced by that organization on Tuesday, May 12.
Junior Job Kemboi (Eldoret, Kenya) notched a pair of All-Region recognitions, doing so in the 5,000-meters and 10,000-meters, while sophomore Rafael Salis (Atlanta, Ga.) collected his in the 800-meters. Both earned All-Region honors during the indoor campaign as well, with Kemboi accomplishing that feat in the 3,000-meters and Salis once again in the 800.
This season, Kemboi has delivered another incredible campaign, not only earning a second consecutive bid to the NCAA Division II National Championships, but achieving that in record-setting fashion.
Twice this year he has broken his own program records, in the 3,000-meters (8:29.70 at Georgia Invitational - May 9) and in the 10,000-meters (29:43.92 at 49th Annual Hillsdale Gina Relays - April 24). The latter was his only appearance in that event all season and saw him shatter the record by 19 seconds to earn a second straight trip to Allendale, Mich. for the Championships.
For Salis, he has posted a strong outdoor campaign that has seen him notch 10 top five finishes, including three wins and three runner-up finishes in the 800-meters, 4x400-meter relay or distance medley relay. For his efforts, he was recently named Clayton State Men's Track & Field Most Outstanding Runner.
In order to earn All-Region recognition, an individual has to either finish in the top five in their region in individual events or be a member of a relay team ranked in the region's top three. This season there were 916 individual honors to 664 different student-athletes.
