2015 All-PBC Women's Soccer ReleaseAUGUSTA, Ga. – Clayton State women's soccer has had three players named to the All-Peach Belt Conference Team, including a pair of First-Team selections, as announced by the league at its annual awards banquet on Thursday, November 5.
Earning First-Team honors were senior midfielder
Maria Marti Bartis (Girona, Spain) and junior defender
Siobhan Wilson (Essex, England) while senior midfielder
Lucy Cunningham (Liverpool, England) was named to the Second-Team.
A Second-Team Daktronics All-American from a year ago, and a CoSIDA Academic All-District choice this year, Marti Bartis picks up her second All-Peach Belt Conference honor. This is her first First-Team selection after being named to the Second-Team following last season.
Wilson earns First-Team honors in her first year in the Blue and Orange while Cunningham notches Second-Team recognition after achieving Second-Team Daktronics All-Region a season ago.
Marti Bartis tied for third in the PBC with 11 goals and added three assists for 25 points, a total that is good for fourth in the league. She was also twice named Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week, earning that honor on September 21 and October 19.
Among her accomplishments this year were goals in 10 of 17 games, including six straight from September 11-30. She also delivered four game-winners, a number that puts her 40
th in NCAA Division II.
Setting up a number of those goals was Wilson as she earns First-Team honors in her first year in the league. She finished the season with a team-high seven assists and ranked third in the league in that category as well as 40
th in the nation. Among her highlights were assists in six games, including two in a 3-1 victory at Armstrong State (10/7).
Cunningham picks up Second-Team honors after playing in all 17 games and starting 15 of those. An all-around midfielder, she chipped in on defense while adding a pair of goals and an assist in 1,322 minutes. The latter ranked sixth on the team.
Overall, Clayton State has now had 39 All-Peach Belt Conference selections since their first in 2001. That is a group that has included nine First-Team choices, including six over the past three years.
This year the Lakers are one of just five teams to have a First-Team selection and trailed only the five selections of league regular season champion No. 6 Columbus State and the three of No. 17 North Georgia.
