Peach Belt Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week Release

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Coming off of a week that saw her excel against one of the top teams in the nation, senior midfielder Maria Marti Bartis (Girona, Spain) has been named Peach Belt Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week as announced by the league on Monday, October 19.

Marti Bartis played a major role in Clayton State's victory over the No. 3 team in the nation this past week.

Taking on No. 3 and undefeated North Georgia (10/14), Marti Bartis drilled home the go-ahead goal at 38:13 before notching the assist on senior midfielder Rachael Schmidt's (Snellville, Ga.) game winner at 99:34 in overtime. That performance helped to end UNG's bid for an undefeated season.

She would wrap the week against No. 17 Columbus State (10/17). In that game, scoring would be at a premium and Marti Bartis would lead the team with two shots, both on goal, in a 4-0 loss.

On the season she has 10 goals and 21 points, which rank second and third, respectively, in the Peach Belt Conference. She is also currently 17th in NCAA Division II with four game-winning goals.

It is Marti Bartis' third such honor of her career and second this season. Previously, she was selected as PBC Player of the Week on September 19 of this year and September 15, 2014. This selection also marks the first time one player has won the last three awards (dating back to last season) and is the fifth time a player has won it twice in one season.

Since the Peach Belt began sponsoring women's soccer in 2000, the Lakers have had at least one Player of the Week selection in 11-of-16 seasons, including each of the past three years. Olatian Yusuf holds the all-time mark with six selections with two each in 2004 and 2005 and one apiece in 2006 and 2007.

Overall the program has claimed a total of 35 weekly honorees from Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week and Goalkeeper of the Week. In 2007, the Peach Belt went from recognizing just one individual to honoring two per week and three weekly starting in 2008.

Marti Bartis and Clayton State return to action on Wednesday, October 21 when they host Georgia Southwestern (2-10, 0-7 PBC) on Senior Day. Game time is set for 5 p.m. at Laker Field.
